ICICI Bank, cops alert students on fin frauds
Kolkata: To increase awareness against cybercrime and financial fraud among college goers along bordering districts of Bengal, the Bongaon police and Dr B R Ambedkar Satabarshiki Mahavidyalaya partnered with ICICI Bank to interact with students. The effort, which is the first of a series of events, will see police and bank officials reach out to colleges along the Indo-Bangla border. Indranil Acharya, zonal head (investigation) ICICI Bank, made students aware of fraudsters taking control of bank accounts. “These accounts-on-rent are being used for crypto currency and investment fraud cases,” said Acharya. Bongaon police superintendent Joyeeta Bose said that due to vast usage of the internet without adequate knowledge, students are at times falling prey to cyber fraud. Bongaon police’s office-in-charge (cyber cell) Sudipta Dey, during his session, stressed that everyone should lock their social media profile and should refrain from sharing personal photos to their virtual “friends”. He shared a case study wherein a girl became victim of online fraud by accepting a friend request from an unknown source. Chittaranjan Das, the college principal, said, “Though youngsters nowadays are very much aware of the use of various electronic media and gadgets, they still fall prey to the incidents of cyber fraud.”
