KOLKATA: The death of a 45-year-old patient created trouble at Chittaranjan National Medical College & Hospital on Sunday evening. Agitated family members of the deceased attacked junior doctors alleging negligence. Junior doctors also retaliated and one person had to be hospitalized in the ensuing ruckus. Trouble started after Mohammad Samad (45) died around 5 pm.
The leukaemia patient was admitted to the hospital on Friday.
As suggested by the doctors, the family arranged five units of blood on Saturday for transfusion. However, the family claimed that junior doctors said the transfusion could not be carried out without the supervision of a senior doctor and did not carry out the procedure. After Samad died on Sunday, his family members and others from the locality stormed the hospital and attacked the junior doctors. The junior doctors too retaliated.
"I will have to probe what exactly led to the death of the patient. If negligence is proved, proper action will be taken," said principal Rabindranath Chatterjee.
