The relatives of a patient admitted to a private hospital at Lenin Sarani with neurological problem went on a rampage at the hospital on Sunday after they came to know of his death, which was allegedly not reported to them.

KOLKATA: The relatives of a patient admitted to a private hospital at Lenin Sarani with neurological problem went on a rampage at the hospital on Sunday after they came to know of his death, which was allegedly not reported to them. They also blocked Lenin Sarani and a huge police force had to disperse the agitators.
Sajid Hussain (50), who got paralyzed because of neurological disorder and cerebral attack, was admitted to the hospital on February 19.

"On Sunday, we came to know of his death only after a neurologist from outside was brought to the hospital. He said Sajid died at least 48 hours ago. But the officials didn't inform us about the death and demanded Rs 1 lakh for treatment," said Ijaz Khan, the patient's brother. The hospital authorities later decided to pay Rs 8 lakh compensation to the patient's kin. MLA Swarna Kamal Saha termed the incident unfortunate. tnnThe hospital authorities could not be contacted for their statement.
