KOLKATA: Kolkata Police has showcaused its deputy commissioner (security control office-II) Satya Ranjan Roy, whose car had killed a Mounted Police stallion near Plassey Gate on Monday.
A probe has revealed that Roy's son had been taking a driving lesson' and was behind the wheels when the car hit the horse.
During initial probe, the DC claimed that his driver Sudhangshu Bose had made the mistake.
Under pressure from his boss, the driver too did not reveal the truth and took the onus of the accident on himself. He was booked for rash and negligent driving.
Shankar Roy, the rider of Caesar's Hawk the 17-year-old horse was on his morning patrol in the Maidan area. He was crossing the road when the accident took place. The stallion sustained serious injuries and collapsed on the spot. Later the horse was taken to hospital where it died. Shankar Roy, too, sustained minor injuries.
Soon after the incident, police commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborti had ordered a probe which revealed the truth.
Roy has been showcaused for suppressing truth and allowing his son to drive a police car.Roy who joined Kolkata Police as a sub-inspector had promoted as deputy commissioner.
