Meena said.
He also claimed that it was Mondal who had given a tip-off about the arms stockpiled in Baidyabati and Polba. The Dhanbad police passed on this information to West Bengal, based on which they recovered the ammunition on December 24.
However, Hooghly SP Ajay Kumar did not come clear on Meena’s claim. “Though we got information about the arrest, nothing has been communicated to us officially, he said.
According to police, Ajit Mondal is known as Ajit Das among the grass-roots MCC activists in Dhanbad and in Jangipara of Hooghly. The Hooghly police had so far arrested four men and one woman in this connection, Kumar said.
The railway police have also been involved in the vigilance against the Naxalites.
The agencies were yet to find out whether the arms recovered had been stolen from an army base, the SP said.
