Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Tuesday stayed the CID notice to former Asansol mayor and BJP leader Jitendra Tiwari, asking him to appear for questioning as a witness in connection to a coal pilferage case in Andal.
Justice Rajasekhar Mantha stayed the notice after Tiwari moved court challenging it. The former Asansol mayor had skipped the CID questioning at Bhawani Bhavan last Friday. Tiwari, instead, wrote a letter to the CID asking why the state investigating agency had summoned him in an Andal coal pilferage case when he happens to be an MLA from Pandabeswar.
“The present investigation where I was summoned by CID as a witness refers to a case registered in Andal in 2020. I have served as MLA of Pandabeswar and mayor of Asansol. Andal doesn’t come under my constituency. It doesn’t come under the Asansol Municipal Corporation either. It comes under Raniganj assembly. Thus, as a public servant, I have no information to share,” Tiwari wrote.
Tiwari’s counsel also questioned the CID investigation in the coal pilferage case when it was already being investigated by the CBI.
