Posta police have registered a case of murder during a robbery.
According to DC (central) Bastab Baidya, Biswas was found dead with his hands and mouth tied with leukoplast tapes and clothes near the elevator. “It seems that the accused had even drilled a hole to try and enter the office Manpuria Agro Products located on the fifth floor. They also tried to open the main door that was locked. This was noticed by Biswas who probably tried to stop them. The goons couldn't execute the robbery finally ,“ said Baidya. Police believe Biswas died of asphyxiation after he was throttled.
Sources said the victim had taken up the job only six months back. “We are trying to ascertain how many men were involved. Initial investigations suggest that at least three to four persons were involved. The fact that there is a private bank located on the ground floor means that we have certain CCTV footage to help us in the probe. The office CCTVs are switched off between 9 pm and 8 am. We are also questioning the staff of a nearby laboratory where the victim worked in the morning shift. The guard who first saw him will be asked to record his statement,“ said a source.
Lalbazar, though, is treating the murder seriously.“The case will also be probed by the homicide squad of the detective department. The dog squad, too, was sent to the spot. The forensics team has collected evidence from the spot,“ said joint CP (crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh.
At least six robberies or attempts to robbery have been reported in the city this year.Locals and traders say that a lot has to do with lax police presence, especially at night.
