GIS co eyes more state govt projects
Kolkata: Esri India Technologies, a leading geographic information system (GIS) software and solutions provider, is planning to approach the state government for building partnerships in more projects. The company that has been working with various government departments in different states since its inception in 1996 is also contemplating collaborating with various institutes across Bengal to educate students on GIS technology so that the state can meet manpower demands in this field.Recently, Esri has signed an MoU with TEXMiN Foundation to set up a Geospatial Excellence Centre at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad. The centre will focus on research and innovation in spatial analytics and remote sensing for mining and exploration.Agendra Kumar, MD, Esri India, told TOI: “We are already providing technological solutions to various state government departments as well as Central government offices in Kolkata. For example, our technology is being used by the state irrigation department in the river basin planning while the stamps and registration department implemented our technology a couple of years ago.” The GIS major, growing at 12.8% rate , is likely to cross Rs 63,100crore business by 2025.
