Ghatal election results 2024 live updates: AITC's Adhikari Deepak (Dev) wins
NEW DELHI: The All India Trinamool Congress candidate, Adhikari Deepak (Dev), emerged victorious in the Ghatal constituency of West Bengal, securing 8,37,990 votes, which was 1,82,868 more than the runner-up. Dr. Hiranmoy Chattopadhyaya from the Bharatiya Janata Party came in second place with 6,55,122 votes, falling short by 182868 votes.
Tapan Ganguli from the Communist Party of India secured the third position with 74,908 votes, trailing the winner by a significant margin of 763082 votes. Soumen Madraji of the Bahujan Samaj Party obtained 7,941 votes, finishing fourth and behind the leading candidate by 830049 votes.
Independent candidate Gopal Mondal received 4,244 votes, placing fifth and lagging behind the winner by 8,33,746 votes. Dinesh Maikap from the Socialist Unity Centre Of India (COMMUNIST) garnered 4148 votes, securing the sixth spot and trailing the victor by 8,33,842 votes. Another independent candidate, Saheb Chowdhury, obtained 3,237 votes, finishing seventh and behind the leading candidate by 8,34,753 votes.
The "None of the Above" (NOTA) option received 12,966 votes, which was 8,25,024 votes less than the winning candidate's tally.
Ghatal, a crucial constituency within the West Midnapore district, predominantly comprises rural areas and maintains a general reservation status.

Similarly, in the 2014 polls, this constituency voted in Phase 5 on May 12, 2014, and the results were declared on May 16, 2014.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha general elections, Deepak Adhikari (Dev) of the AITC emerged victorious in this constituency, securing a win over Bharati Ghosh of the BJP by a substantial margin of 107,973 votes, constituting 7.25 per cent of the total votes cast. In the 2014 elections, Deepak Adhikari (Dev) of the AITC clinched the seat, defeating Santosh Rana of the CPI by an impressive margin of 260,891 votes, which accounted for 19.09 per cent of the total votes polled in the constituency. Notably, in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Gurudas Dasgupta of the CPI emerged triumphant, securing the seat by defeating Nure Alam Chowdhury of the TMC by a margin of 147,184 votes, constituting 12.58 per cent of the total votes polled for the seat.
