The seventh edition of Poornam’22 - ‘Ek Muskaan Ke liye’ organised by a Kolkata-based non-profit organization for specially abled children and adults to explore, engage in workshops and enjoy a variety of activities was held recently.
The fun-filled afternoon saw children and adults participate in culinary workshops, textile workshops, dance and music activities.
Sports, too, was an integral part of the programme. The volunteers, who were school and college students, sportingly participated with the specially abled children.
‘’As responsible citizens, it is important for all of us to participate and be a part of such a cause. Things are changing for the better, and these organisations are trying to train specially abled children for a better future,’’ said
Rituparna Sengupta, who graced the occasion to interact with the children.
Apart from preparing the specially abled for a better and dignified life, the organisation aims at spreading awareness and educating the parents and families of such children. “While other parents take a few minutes to teach their children simple calculations, it takes years or sometimes a lifetime for parents like us to teach things to our special ones,’’ said Nita Diwan, the founder-director and the driving force behind the organisation.
Director
Subhrajit Mitra, who was also present at the do, said, “It is very overwhelming to see these kids enjoying themselves here today. They look so happy!’’
A mother present at the occasion expressed how happy and comfortable her daughter felt at the programme. “She loves to engage in activities of her choice here, without being subject to long stares and weird glances,” she told us.
