Fun-filled evening makes up for wet weekend
KOLKATA: Last weekend could not have been better for members of Rabindra Memorial Sporting Club in Picnic Garden. A gala gathering with music, cooking, sit-and-draw competition and lots of play and fun at this club on the southern fringes of the city made the evening special for the audience. Times Evening organized by The Times of India was a hit with the young and old alike.
Children clambered for space in the sit-and-draw competition, arranged for children below 13 .

Around53 participants made it tough for the judges to decide the winners. At the end, Biswaroop Das emerged the victor, while Aniket Das bagged the second prize and Nikhil Shaw the third.
All this while, homemaker members of the club were working their magical hands on cooking pans with innovative recipes.
A cookery competition had 13 women stirring up a storm and sending aromas wafting in the air. Sushmita Majumdar was crowned the winner for her bhapano egg curry, while Priyanka Das got the second prize for her mango paati shapta and Sunipa Sengupta was given the third prize for her summer cool with chicken gold coin.
The much-anticipated antakshari had the singing talents of the club taking to the mike. The team comprising Ashok Ghosh, Kaushik Sharma, Abhishek Banerjee and Rinku Chakraborty was declared the winner, while the team of Subroto Das, Sujoy Mondal, Purnendu Naiya and Bubai Das settled for the runner-up trophy.
Times Tambola was enjoyed by everyone present. Supriyo Majumdar won a prize for the first row and Ratnadip Mukherjee for the second. The third row went to Debjani Das, whereas jaldi five went to Rima Roy and Abhishek Banerjee bagged the full house.
A heavy downpour towards the end could not dampen the spirit of people, who made the most of the perfomance by musical band Nightingale got ready to hit off rain threatened to spoil the fun. But the revelers would not just let the rain spoil the fun. The venue was shifted from the open air to the club room. Nightingale enthralled them with popular numbers. This musical program ran late into the night.
