JALPAIGURI: The suspension order on four students of the Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College, accused of ragging a first year student, has been withdrawn by the college authorities.
According to college sources, the suspension of four tudents — Parashar Kishore Singh, Mainak Choudhury, Nigam Prasad Kundu and Subhadeep Naha — was withdrawn on Saturday.
The infamous incident on August 5 night had attracted all round condemnation and led to a demand for exemplary punishment by the state government. However, students in the engineering college went on an indefinite strike since Auguat 29 demanding withdrawal of the suspension order.
The strike was called off only after the students, who were remanded to judicial custody after the police had arrested them, were granted bail on september one.
In the grisly incident, the fresher, sayandeep bandopadhyay, was beaten up with iron rods and cycle chains by the four senior students for hesitating to strip allegedly before seniors on august five night.
The senior students had also allegedly forced Sayandeep to sign a note stating that he had committed suicide after ''family trouble'' and no one was responsible for it.
