Football fan dies after a tanker hits him

ASANSOL: Sandip Nandy, the goalkeeper of victorious East Bengal club, escaped narrowly from an accident in his hometown Burdwan. An oil tanker crashed into the procession of football lovers who welcomed Nandy at the Burdwan railway station, killing a cyclist and injuring four.

ASANSOL: Sandip Nandy, the goalkeeper of victorious East Bengal club, escaped narrowly from an accident in his hometown Burdwan. An oil tanker crashed into the procession of football lovers who welcomed Nandy at the Burdwan railway station, killing a cyclist and injuring four.
Nandy after returning from Jakarta came to Burdwan on Wednesday to meet his parents and sister before leaving once again for Kolkata for playing Federation Cup matches for East Bengal.

Thousands of people had gathered at the station to escort him to his house in Loco rail Colony.
Ujjal Kar (25) of Jotram in Burdwan town died on the spot and four others were admitted to Burdwan Medical College Hospital in critical conditions. The tanker was coming from the Katwa Bridge. It lost control after its brakes failed, it first crashed into the cyclist and then to some motorcycles in the front row of the procession. His coach, Goutam Sarkar and father Sukhendu Nandy were accompanying him in an open jeep. They were at the time of accident at the rear of the procession. Burdwan Traffic police then diverted the procession through Badamtola. Nandy later said that he was shocked with the accident.
