IAF continues rescue operations in Bihar

One C-17 aircraft carried NDRF team from Bhubaneswar to Purnea on Sunday.

A C-17 aircraft picked up Army team from Ranchi to Purnea while another C-17 picked up NDRF team from Bhubaneswar to Patna.

One Mi-17 helicopter based at Gorakhpur evacuated 45 marooned people from Maharajganj today morning.

Two An-32 aircrafts from Allahabad are carrying 90 Army personnel with equipments and boats etc from Allahabad to Darbhanga.

More C-17 sorties to carry Army teams from Ranchi to Patna is being planned.

Six teams of 3 Bn NDRF airlifted at Patna airport from Bhubneshwar by C-17 aircraft. Teams are being mobilized to Sitamarhi, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur & Bettiah (Bagha) for flood rescue operations.

Several parts of Himachal Pradesh, including Mandi district where a massive mudslide claimed 46 lives, may experience heavy rainfall on Monday, a weather official warned. It may hamper the rescue operation that continued on the second day on Monday.

Gorakhpur airport closed for now, all flights for/from cancelled as runway gets flooded with water.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm and lightning warning for Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam and Rayagada districts of Odisha. It alerted people in these districts to stay indoors and take shelter in buildings and other safe locations as a precautionary measure.

Even before it could recover from last month's floods, the Kaziranga National Park has once again been hit, with more than 85% of the protected area going under water following heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours. In fact, officials claim this could be the worst flooding in nearly three decades.

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has sought the Centre's help in deploying the Army to conduct rescue operations as the flood situation in Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia and Katihar districts.
