Police sources indicate that the complaint relates to a speech Chakraborty gave on October 27 at a BJP program held at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) in Salt Lake. The FIR was registered at the Bidhannagar South police station.

Union home minister Amit Shah was also present at the event, which marked the start of the BJP's membership drive in West Bengal.

"We have started an investigation into the case," stated a senior Bidhannagar police officer.

While Chakraborty was not available for comment, BJP state president and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar dismissed the FIR as "vendetta politics," adding, "There is nothing provocative in his speech. These are nothing but attempts to intimidate him by using police as a political tool."

Chakraborty, who received the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award earlier this year, had declared at the event, “In 2026, the masnad (throne) will be ours, and we will do everything to achieve the goal,” implying the BJP’s goal to take power in West Bengal after the 2026 Assembly elections.

In a reference to past remarks by TMC MLA Humayun Kabir targeting BJP workers during the Lok Sabha elections, Chakraborty cautioned that no one should attempt to deter BJP voters from participating in the upcoming Assembly elections.

He urged his party’s booth-level workers to resist any such intimidation attempts.
