How could a healthy newborn develop septicemia?” wondered Ghosh. Ghosh said he will lodge a complaint with the West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission on Friday.
Dr Tridib Banerjee, under whose care the newborn was, refuted the allegations and said that best medical attention was given to the child. The baby suffered from newborn hemorrhagic disease triggered by vitamin K deficiency, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and later developed septicemia.
“I personally attended the baby 6 to 8 times in 12 hours and all efforts were made to save the child. Unfortunately the baby died due to septicemia,” said Dr Tridib Banerjee, consultant pediatrician and neonatologist at Bhagirathi Neotia Women & Child Care Centre, Kolkata where the baby died.
