Kolkata: Amin Ahmed alias Cheena Gabbar, a history-sheeter known for dropping names of some junior cops to carry out
extortion, has been arrested after a home-invasion incident on Wednesday. According to cops, Ahmed routinely extorted money by falsely claiming to be an official police driver. Lalbazar has clarified he was never on the department’s payroll.
Locals said Ahmed used to name those officers who are currently under ED scanner for being close to former DC Santanu Sinha Biswas, who himself is in judicial custody after being arrested by ED. A few of these junior officers were transferred from their units on Friday amid allegations that they spent years in the same unit and used “contacts” to avoid transfers.
On Wednesday around 4 am, Ahmed allegedly forced his way into a house, threatened the homeowner’s son with a chopper, and demanded cash. When the family failed to pay, Ahmed assaulted both the mother and son, and outraged the woman’s modesty. He was arrested later that morning. Cops are seeking his custody till June 5 to locate the weapon, establish the motive, and uncover the deeper financial links tying him to the extortion syndicate.
Ahmed holds a lengthy criminal record spanning two decades, including cases for attempted murder and Arms Act violations across several jurisdictions, including Karaya, Regent Park, Bhowanipore and New Alipore.
While Ahmed’s legal team dismissed the extortion and syndicate allegations as a “figment of imagination,” police are strongly opposing bail. Cops cited a high risk of witness intimidation and flight if the career criminal were to be released.
