EW under-river stretch’s final CRS check starts Mon
Kolkata: The final safety inspection for the East-West Metro’s under-river stretch is likely to start from Monday. The inspection will be led by chief commissioner of railway safety (CCRS) Janak Kumar Garg.
This will be the third CRS inspection in a month. Garg was in the city last Thursday to meet officials of Metro Railway and KMRC, which is implementing the 16km East-West Metro corridor.

He had sought speedy compliance of the observations made by his team during the inspection of the 4.8km Esplanade-Howrah Maidan stretch from December 15 to 18.
The inspection was supposed to go on for three more days, but the team called it off mid-way. The CRS was peeved at the level of incompleteness of the section, which the authorities are trying to throw open to the public before the Lok Sabha elections this year.
The CRS made 19 observations to which KMRC must comply with by next Monday. Among the other significant observations was the unfinished access points at the Esplanade station. KMRC has instructed contractors ITD ITD-Cementation to work round the clock to address the CRS’ observations.
