Kolkata: The electrocution of a 44-year-old woman at Saheb Bagan in Maniktala on Thursday night led to a fight between two factions of Trinamool. On Friday, local KMC coordinator Amal Chakraborty’s house was attacked and protesters blocked the Maniktala Main Road without maintaining social distancing.
The incident happened around 10pm on Thursday when the victim, Pushpa Verma, was reportedly filling an iron bucket from a water tank that was allegedly electrified from an adjacent KMC lamp post.
The woman died instantly and those who tried to save her also sustained mild injuries. After a local electrician disconnected the power supply, the woman was rushed to RG Kar Hospital where she was declared brought dead. This was the second electrocution death reported from the same area in a single month.
Locals alleged that their representations to Chakraborty about illegal electric connection and dangerous KMC poles elicited no results. They blocked the road and some others pelted stones at Chakraborty’s house. Later, cops brought the situation under control.
