Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday alleged at the special PMLA court that former education minister Partha Chatterjee had been issuing no objection certificates (NOC) to private professional degree colleges for money. Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee have been sent to judicial custody till December 14.
“We are investigating the persons involved directly or indirectly in the money laundering”, the ED said.
The agency also alleged that the nexus was not restricted to law or pharmacy degree colleges only, but also to D El Ed and B Ed colleges. “Money was taken for issuing NOC to these colleges and granting them affiliation,” the ED said. The agency on November 26 recorded Chatterjee’s statement in connection to that.
The agency alleged that Chatterjee in collusion with former WBBPE chairman Manik Bhattacharya “generated proceeds of crime”. “The agency is probing who else assisted the duo,” said ED lawyer Bhaskar Prasad Mukherjee.
