Police said, according to the complaint, Tapan Mondal was found murdered at his Jaganathpur home in Rajapur police station by neighbours. Police said the body has been sent for post-mortem at the Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Medical College hospital in Uluberia. Police said the victim's son, Kumaresh, has been detained for questioning. Kumaresh, police said, was apprehended by locals while he was trying to flee home on Thursday morning.

Kumaresh's wife Anjali told cops that her husband - an engineer - was a drug addict. She said he used to work in a factory but had lost his job recently and was not doing anything since then. He has been admitted to a drug rehabilitation centre. On Wednesday night he had fought with his father over money to buy drugs. She claimed that he used to move around with bricks and rods and attacked anyone who tried to stop him for having drugs.

Police said, according to locals Kumaresh had accosted his father on Wednesday night for money. When Tapan refused, Kumaresh repeatedly hit him with a heavy object, killing him. He had tried to slip out of the home in the morning realizing his father had died.
