Doctor kills man over two drops of paint

Bankura: A 40-year-old man was allegedly attacked by a doctor on Thursday for accidentally defacing his car with two drops of paint. Victim Prashanta Deogharia succumbed to his injuries at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata on Saturday morning.

Salboni village's Deogharia and his colleague Apurba Patra painted electric poles for a living, and were beaten up with a bamboo pole when they accidentally stained accused Dr Debil Soren's car with a few drops of paint.

A general physician of Bankura Sammilani Medical College Hospital, Soren reportedly hit the victim on his head till he collapsed.

Patra, too, sustained injuries on his hand.

"We were painting an electric pole behind the house of Bankura Sammilani Medical College Hospital's principal and a red Maruti car was parked beside it. We requested the owner to remove it, but he did not listen. When he came back, he noticed that two drops of paint had stained the car. After a heated argument with us, where we told him it was an accident, he suddenly picked up a bamboo stick from the road and attacked us.He repeatedly hit Deogharia on his head until he collapsed.He then fled in his car," Patra recounted.

IC of Bankura Sadar police station Rajarshi Dutta said an FIR had been lodged by the victim's uncle on Friday. "We have started an investigation.Soren's quarters at Bankura Sammilani Medical College Hospital are locked and he is absconding with his family," Dutta said.

The victim's uncle, Kartik Adhikary, said, "Deogharia is survived by his widowed mother. His wife had left him long ago and she stays in Purulia along with her son and a daughter."
