Doctor granted bail in murder case

KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court on Monday granted bail to Dr Arundhati Khanra, an accused in Dr Chandan Sen murder case. Khanra was in jail custody for over five months.

KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court on Monday granted bail to Dr Arundhati Khanra, an accused in Dr Chandan Sen murder case. Khanra was in jail custody for over five months.
A division bench comprising Justice N.A. Chowdhury and Justice Arunabha Barua, however, turned down the bail prayer of other six accused including Subharanjan Khanra, husband of Arundhati and Dr Alam of the Ranaghat subdivisional hospital.
Dr Chandan Sen, a doctor of Ranaghat subdivisional hospiotal, was murdered on February 26 when he went to attend a dinner at the residence of Sunil Ganguly, a former employee of the hospital.

His body was found in a pond near the residence of Ganguly. Following the incident seven persons were arrested including the Khanra couple.
Opposing the bail prayer of the seven accused, additional public prosecutor Asimes Goswami submitted that the case has been committed to the Krishnagar Sessions court and the trial was going to start very soon. At this stage the trial might be hampared if the accused were granted bail, he argued.
