Doc files stalk plaint against ex-schoolmate

Kolkata: A 36-year-old Salt Lake doctor filed a formal complaint against her former schoolmate for alleged cyberstalking, harassment and issuing rape-and-death threats. She highlighted at length how the digital harassment affected her peace of mind for so many years.The accused, identified as Indraneel Ghosh from Santoshpur, allegedly began harassing the complainant during their school years after she rejected his romantic advances. The harassment reportedly escalated to severe cyberstalking and explicit threats of violence in recent months, the doctor wrote in her complaint. An FIR was initiated in this regard at the Bidhannagar North police station.According to the complaint, the accused persistently attempted to gather information about the victim by contacting her friends and acquaintances. He allegedly monitored her social media accounts and sent disturbing messages, including threats of physical harm and death.The complaint details particularly concerning messages where the accused allegedly stated that the victim "deserves to be raped and tortured to death", making specific reference to the RG Kar Hospital rape-and-murder incident. He also reportedly made threats regarding her future marriage and children.The victim provided cops with screenshots of the threatening messages. She expressed concern about her physical safety and mental well-being, as well as that of her family members."He explicitly said that I deserve to be raped and tortured to death (he said ‘Whatever happened to the RG Kar woman should have happened to you') and made numerous violent and hateful statements such as, I ‘will never get married', or if I ‘get married or have children, it will be a horrible life' and they will suffer because of me," the doctor stated in her complaint.Legal experts note that such actions potentially violate multiple sections of the BNS and the IT Act, including provisions against cyberstalking, criminal intimidation and harassment.Cops said a probe is underway. They advised the public to promptly report any instances of cyberstalking or digital harassment to prevent escalation of such situations.
