KOLKATA: A

mentally disabled woman

was rescued from the top of an

under-construction Pathakpara Metro station

, 30ft above the ground, at

Behala

on Sunday. The woman in her late thirties was spotted reading a newspaper while sitting on one of the Metro piers, dangling her feet in the air, around 11.15am.

Police along with the Metro workers tried to get her down but she began running along the narrow viaduct where tracks would be laid. Then the cops called Fire Brigade officials who brought a ladder, climbed up to the spot and persuaded the her to come down.

Cops suspect she had climbed the iron ladder set up by workers near Ajanta Cinema and walked till Pathakpara. She was handed over to an NGO.
