KOLKATA: Citing the Supreme Court's judgement in the Royappa case that a chief minister had a right to choose his own secretary, senior advocate Shaktinath Mukherjee while arguing on behalf of the West Bengal government on Wednesday contended that the state chief minister had a right to have a man of his own choice in the post of DG/IGP.

the cat had dismissed his petition against promotion of dinesh bajpai to the post of dg/igp. in response to the earlier submission of chakraborty's counsel siddhartha sankar roy that the chief minister's decision of appointing dinesh bajpai as dg/igp was malafide and that the chief minister should file an affidavit in his support, advocate mukherjee submitted that it was not the law that the chief minister would file affidavit in every case. in this case, the applicants' allegations were not specific, he added.
