KOLKATA: In an attempt to counter the Trinamool Congress's recent public rally at Kulitala, the
CPM organised a peace rally there on Sunday. Kulitala, which falls in the added areas of Salt Lake, recently witnessed a CPM-Trinamool clash, in which one person was killed and four were injured.
Ministers Abdur Rezzak Mollah, Ranjit Kundu and other CPM leaders like Amitava Nandy and Rajarhat MLA Rabin Mandal attended the rally.
They claimed the Trinamool was creating all sorts of problems in the area.
"Why should be common people affected? Both Mamata Banerjee and chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee enjoy Z-category security. Innocent villagers should not get involved in this tiff," said land and land reforms minister Abdur Rezzak Mollah.
CPM leaders Rabin Mandal and Amitava Nandy said the local CPM would try to prevent attacks launched by the Trinamool. The CPM leaders alleged that the Trinamool was resorting to violence and attacking them to forcefully grab the areas that have been predominantly dominated by CPM.
The Trinamool held a public rally in Kulitala only on Friday in which opposition leader Partha Chatterjee warned that they would come there again if all the culprits were not arrested.
Since the civic polls, in which the Trinamool came to power at the Bidhannagar Municipality for the first time in 15 years, there have been some minor clashes at the Salt Lake bheris that fall under the jurisdiction of CPM councillor and municipality opposition leader Ila Nandy, who is also CPM leader Amitava Nandy's wife. With the Trinamool making inroads in this area, the CPM is desperate to hold ground and thus, clashes are breaking out.
