The top cop visited the chief minister’s residence and checked the security arrangement there as well.

Senior officers at Lalbazar called it a routine inspection by the CP. Sources said Goyal asked cops about their daily functions at night. He also wanted to know the challenges that the personnel faced on duty.

The commissioner’s ground inspection coincided with the regular raids by divisional and traffic police at 50-odd nakas across the city.

Goyal had left his residence on Loudon Street around 11pm. He visited Gariahat and Tiljala police stations before stopping at Watgunge and Ekbalpore police stations.

All these police stations have witnessed serious incidents this year. Sources said the commissioner’s prime focus was to take stock of the arrangements at police stations to deal with crimes and law-and-order issues at night.
