roy submitted that supreme court in sri dinakar case of 1999 held that only the persons who were holding the posts of dg cadre should be considered for the appointment of dg/ig. there was no scope of promotion from adg to the post of dg. bajpai was promoted to dg/ig from the post of adg rank. earlier, on october 19, the cat dismissed chakraborty's contention that the promotion of bajpai from the post of commissioner of calcutta police to the rank of dg/ig was illegal and politically motivated as he was senior to bajpai and there was no merit in the case.
