Cops wait for victim’s medical report to slap stricter sections
KOLKATA: Almost 48 hours after retired
“We have asked for the medical report and we will add newer sections if required,” said a south suburban division officer. The counsel for the Gangulys — Dibyendu Bhattacharya — had informed TOI on Friday that they might plead for amendment of the sections.
In response, police on Saturday clarified that they had not received any medical report from the two accused — Shankar Das and Sona Gayen — when they had lodged the FIR claiming assault by the Gangulys. “If they fail to produce the documents, their case falls flat. We found out that both Das and Gayen had arrived after Kalyaneswar’s son Kaustav left the police station. While Kaustav had to attend to his parents, he requested us to visit their house and write out the FIR. The accused managed to lodge their FIR in the intervening time, choosing to frame their complaint at the police station itself,” said an officer.
Meanwhile, two days of doing the rounds of the police station and the court has finally taken a toll on Kalyaneswar, who is now seeking an appointment with an eye specialist. Kaustav and his mother Asima, too, have complained of severe body aches. “My wife is still shaken and complaining of nausea. As much as the eye hurts, I need to attend to her too,” said Kalyaneswar. Speaking to TOI, Kaustav said the family was hoping the cops will live up to their promises. “We want to keep faith in them,” said Kaustav.
The police visited the family on Saturday and officers claimed they will tighten beat policing in Haltu. “We want to reassure the Ganguly family that we are with them,” said an officer.
Locals, though, have raised questions about the manner in which the syndicate members have opened a new club in the area. “They are now demanding that all local youths join their drive for collection of money to expand the club. We want cops to stop the syndicate from controlling dictating terms to us,” said
