KOLKATA: Six policemen were injured - three of them battling for their lives in the hospital - at Jagaddal on Sunday after stones were pelted at a police team that had arrested notorious criminal Raju Tiwari on charges of extortion, robbery and murder. Six of Tiwari's associates were arrested later in the day for attacking the cops.
Violence erupted after news of Tiwari's arrest spread among his associates.
They initially tried to resist the cops from taking Tiwari away and pelted stones at them. When all their attempts failed, they blocked Ghoshpara Road as a mark of protest. Another round of scuffle broke out when police reached the spot to disperse the protestors.
