Cops create green channel to ferry student to centre
KOLKATA:
It was around 11.35am — the exam starts at noon — that the girl and her mother were noticed at the busy Shyambazar five-point crossing. Local Trinamool leader Srijan Bose brought the woman, who had another child in her arms, to sergeant Suprabhat Ghosh and sought help.
“I came to know that the student was to take her exam at Cossipore Institution For Girls. They were travelling from Nagerbazar and had to get off at Chiria More. Instead, they had travelled all the way to Shyambazar and then lost the way. The examinee and her mother were crying when Bose spotted them. When I informed my OC, Debasish Ganguly, he endorsed my idea to personally drop off the student at the exam centre. My guard sent out an order to keep all the traffic signals green even as Ganguly arranged for a separate vehicle for the mother and the other child,” recalled Ghosh.
According to cops, there were seven major signals on the way and Cossipore Road was a tough one to negotiate during the peak traffic hour. “We still made it in seven minutes. When we reached the school, the student said that she still could not recognize the centre. I insisted on checking her admit card and then found we were at the correct spot. I asked the school authorities to take her to the exam hall and came back,” said Ghosh.
Though cops have helped Madhyamik examinees multiple times this year, this was the longest green corridor that has been created for ferrying a student. “We want to assure guardians that we will do everything possible to ensure students reach their exam venues on time,” said an officer at Lalbazar.
