Cops break crime backbone

getting down at titagarh station was a nightmare even a years ago. not a week passed when extortion and murder did not take place. people lost faith in the police as grievances were rarely redressed, said kailash prasad jadav of the resistance group of ward number 20 under titagarh police station. now the situation has improved remarkably, say the local people, thanks to the series of actions taken by the now active police force.as industries downed their shutters, jobless workers took to crime. drug peddling, sale of hooch and prostitution was practices openly. shop owners at titagarh bazar were fleeced consistently. but on the december 19 last year, the police conducted a raid and unearthed a prostitution racket. during the same time, six dacoits were arrested with revolvers, bombs and other arms. on the fifth of december, a raid on satta dens were carried out. four people were arrested and rs 16,990 recovered. in december five people were arrested on charges of robbery. seven influential were arrested for filling up of ponds near talpukur on the same day. the police crackdown was unleashed ruthlessly. never in my 12 year career have i had to carry out so many raids at such frequency.the results are now for the people to see and only they can comment on our success, said the officer in charge, titagarh police station. the police helped the locals set up resistance groups in almost every ward. a group of women pickpockets were arrested, thanks to the vigil of resistance group, said the oc. local people praise the police in unison. dacoity, murder, extortion and sale of narcotics and hooch have come down dramatically ever since the police action began. titagarh is not yet crime free but the situation has improved remarkably, the locals say unhesitatingly.
