Constable dies, seven injured in four accidents
Kolkata: A police constable died and seven were injured in four accidents in the city in last 24 hours.
Around 6am on Monday, Tarun Sardar, a 29-year-old constable of Kolkata Police, died after his bike was hit by a vehicle on the airport-bound flank of Belghoria Expressway. The accident took place near Khalishakota under Dum Dum police station. Sardar, a resident of Sukantanagar under Airport police station, was returning to his home from duty.
Around 11.30pm on Sunday, four persons riding a bike were injured when the two-wheeler suddenly skidded on Anandapur Chowbhaga High Road near Anandapur police station.
Bikash Mandal, 34, the biker along with pillion riders Suman Mandal, 19, and Kitu Sardar, 23, residents of Nonadanga Railway Colony, Nonadanga Ambedkar Colony and Purba Jagarani, respectively, escaped with minor injuries. They were treated and discharged from hospital but the third pillion rider, 27-year-old Ranjit Mandal, a resident of Picnic Garden, received injury on his head and was admitted to a government hospital.
Around 5.50am on Monday, 40-year-old Kalpana Dutta and 30-year-old Arati Mandal, who were travelling in a private bus, received minor injuries and were treated and discharged from the hospital after the vehicle was dashed by a government bus near Khanna crossing on APC Road.
Later in the day, around 12.05pm, 58-year-old Narayan Shee, a resident of Chetlahat Road, received injuries in his hands when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle on SPM Road near Rashbehari crossing while he was walking down the road. He was taken to MR Bangur hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
