Concert of youngsters at Jadavpur
KOLKATA: A bunch of youngsters will showcase their skills in classical music and dance in the city on Sunday. The organizers of Baithak, as the programme has been named, aim to promote young performers. The eight-hour-long concert will start at Gandhi Bhavan of Jadavpur University at 1.30pm. “We have handpicked a few talented dancers and musicians aged between 18 and 33,” said Indrayudh Majumdar of ShowVelvet.com, who is presenting the event in association with Shree Ranjani and I&CA department. Percussionist Pandit Tanmoy Bose said, “The ‘baithak’ concept somehow got vanished from the city in the 1980s. It is great that the organizers are trying to bring it back.”A book on Hindustani classical music, “Prasanga: Raagsangeet” will also be launched. “I have tried to interpret the synthesis of spiritualism and aestheticism in our music,” said author Vidushi Manasi Majumder, renowned classical vocalist and musicologist.
