KOLKATA: A BJP functionary has lodged a complaint against former Bengal CM
Mamata Banerjee and a TMC MLA alleging misuse of annual Eid congregations on Red Road in central Kolkata during her stint in office for political purposes in violation of Islamic principles.
BJP's Nazia Elahi Khan has claimed that Mamata's participation in these events contravened Quranic and Sharia norms on such prayer congregations that are restricted to males, reports Tamaghna Banerjee. Javed Ahmed Khan, the TMC legislator named in the complaint, is also president of Muslim Khilafat Committee which organises the Eid prayers.
The complaint alleges that political activities at the congregation hurt the religious sentiments of the Muslim community, tarnished Islam's image and fostered communal divisions.
