CNG campaign kicks off in 5 districts

Kolkata: Even as Kolkata faces a CNG shortage, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) on Friday kicked off a comprehensive CNG sales campaign across five Bengal districts — Howrah, Hooghly, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas and Nadia. The launch marked the beginning of a promotional initiative that will continue till January 2024. Customers purchasing CNG vehicles during this period stand to receive benefits of free CNG worth up to Rs 5000.
The campaign was inaugurated by Mohit Dhawan, chief general manager (retail, east zone). The participants at the event included CNG dealers, retrofitters and vehicle manufacturers.
HPCL is responsible for developing the infrastructure and promoting CNG usage in 12 districts. Currently, there are 16 operational CNG stations in Kolkata’s vicinity, with 10 more ready for commissioning.
While Dhawan emphasized the importance of increasing natural gas consumption, Sanjoy Ghosh, general manager (city gas distribution), Bengal, expressed his optimism regarding the campaign’s impact on the state’s CNG ecosystem.
