CM opens new bldgs of NRS, WBUHS
Kolkata: Two new buildings were inaugurated — at NRS Medical College & Hospital and West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) at Salt Lake — by CM Mamata Banerjee, remotely from Nabanna, on Thursday. At NRS Hospital, the new 10-storey Dr B C Roy Memorial building will house important departments, including emergency OT of general surgery, orthopaedics, neurology, neurosurgery, cardiology, CTVS, general medicine, ophthalmology, radiology, anaesthesiology and gastroenterology. It will accommodate extra ICU/ITU beds. A new 128-slice CT scan facility will also be installed, improving patient care.The govt pumped in Rs 148 crore for this project, and sources said it will take some time for all the departments to shift there. The govt invested Rs 102.7 crore for the new building at WBHUS, which will house several administrative offices of the university and seminar halls. Established in 2003, the university controls 257 streams of different medical institutions, and sources said space had become a constraint.
