KOLKATA: The state school education department is set to introduce hub-and-spoke cluster learning for holistic development of state-run schools in Bengal. The department, on Wednesday, issued guidelines to school heads. In Kolkata, nearly 70 schools have been identified to initiate the project ‘hubs of learning’.
The letter sent to heads of institutions read: “In the pursuit for holistic development of students and improvement in the quality of education, the school education department is introducing a strategy for success through the method adopted in peer learning and mentorship. The concept of ‘Hub of Learning’ is a cluster approach which promises to be the platform for implementing this vision.”
The department has identified a set of mentor schools across Bengal with the ‘hub’ mapped to eight-10 ‘spoke’ schools. A school will remain as the mentor or hub school for at least two years, after which one of the spoke schools will take over as the hub school.
Jadavpur Vidyapith headmaster Partha Pratim Baidya said, “This is an innovative project for holistic development of students by establishing cooperation between neighbouring schools.”
