HOWRAH: A Howrah Citu leader sent to jail has allegedly got another person to impersonate him while he himself stayed a free man.
Remanded in judicial custody by an Uluberia court for snatching' seized autorickshaws from police and PVD officials, Bablu Das has been accused of getting Mintu Das to represent' him in prison.
Bablu is a local Citu leader and has been charged with snatching the vehicles on Monday from Bagnan when officials were on a drive against illegal autos.

There was violence at the spot, resulting in injuries to four policemen and some PVD officials. On Tuesday, five persons Bablu Das, Bapi Das, Sheikh Jaimuddin, Sheikh Tutu and Sheikh Jahangir were arrested, based on a complaint by PVD officer Sandip Saha. They were produced in court on Wednesday and remanded in 14 days' judicial custody.
Locals, however, were shocked to see Bablu back in Bagnan's Nabasan area. Inquiries revealed that Mintu, a CPM supporter from nearby Saratgram, had taken Bablu's place behind bars.
Local Trinamool Congress leaders launched a demonstration in front of the SDO's office on Thursday. "We have lodged a complaint with the SDO and will file a complaint in the Uluberia court on Friday," said Trinamool activist Pulak Ray. Subdivisional police
officer Mrinal Mukherjee promised swift action. "We are investigating the matter and will press charges if the complaint is found true," he said.
