BALARAMPUR: State investigating agency CID has not been able to make much headway in the mysterious death of 20-year-old BJP activist Trilochan Mahato, two weeks after his body was found hanging from a tree on May 31 with a chilling message scrawled on his back.
On the contrary, the victim’s family members are peeved over “political” posers investigating officers have thrown at them at the CID office in Purulia.

Satyapada Mahato, the victim’s relative, alleged CID asked questions about the deceased’s character and then said: “Why are you in BJP? What’s the harm doing Trinamool?” Taken aback, Satyapada went to BJP district president Bidyasagar Chakrabarty and expressed fears over the course of the investigation.
Satyapada had gone to the CID office in Purulia along with Trilochan’s brothers Shibnath and Vivekananda on being summoned to its office on June 13 for questioning. “The questioning began at 11am and we all came out of the CID office at 5pm. A team of six, led by a DSP-rank officer questioned us one by one for long hours. They asked me about the deceased’s character, whether he had any affair with a housewife in the village,” said Shibnath.
The investigating team asked Vivekanda about Trilochan’s college days, his friends and associates. “You work as a daily labourer in Jharkhand. Your father has named six people in the complaint. Do you think they are actually involved in the murder?” Vivekananda said quoting the questions posed by CID.
Trilochan’s family members and neighbours are miffed with their questioning by CID while the accused have returned to Supurdih village days after they fled. “We lodged the complaint. We are being summoned for questioning,” Shibnath said.

The BJP district president endorsed Shibnath’s grievance. “The state investigation agency is acting on the state government’s diktat. We have therefore demanded a CBI probe into the death,” Chakrabarty said.
The CID, however, sees nothing wrong in the questioning. “We served them notice under Section 160 of CrPC because they are acquainted with the facts and circumstances of the case. Earlier, we summoned the people Trilochan’s father named in his complaint. This is the usual procedure,” a CID official said. Asked about “political” posers, the official said: “We ask many questions without giving them an inkling about the focus of inquiry.”
The CID team has already got statements from one family member that does not match those of other members. It has videographed the entire questioning.
