Kolkata: The
CBI on Wednesday recorded the statements of the widow and the daughter of Trinamool leader Tapan Dutta, who was gunned down in May 2011. Dutta, an environmentalist in Bally, had been protesting against illegal filling-up of water bodies in Bally’s Jagachha area.
A single bench of the Calcutta HC had on June 10 last year ordered a CBI investigation in the case.
The court also ordered the central investigating agency to conduct a fresh probe. The CBI had earlier collected case-related documents from CID.
The Tapan Dutta
murder case underwent many ups and downs over the years. The case was first heard in a trial court, then in the Calcutta HC and later in the Supreme Court. The apex court referred it back to the Calcutta HC. An HC division bench had in 2016 ordered a retrial of the case.
