RG Kar rape-murder: CBI grills Panihati MLA
Kolkata: Trinamool’s Panihati MLA Nirmal Ghosh, on Monday, appeared before the CBI in connection with the rape and murder of a 31-year-old PGT doctor at RG Kar Hospital. Ghosh, who was present at the crematorium when she was cremated, was questioned for nearly seven hours.Ghosh reached the CGO Complex office around 10.30 am and went straight inside. The agency had earlier alleged that the victim was cremated in a hurried way despite a demand from her parents for a second autopsy. A section of junior doctors had also questioned Ghosh’s presence at hospital after the incident. They also alleged that there were two more bodies before the victim was brought to the crematorium, but she was cremated jumping the queue.According to CBI sources, when Ghosh was questioned why the victim’s body was cremated by jumping the queue at the crematorium, Ghosh said that it’s a norm to cremate a body which has been subject to autopsy. Moreover, a crowd had started gathering at that place and the staff at the crematorium decided to cremate her first. He claimed that they followed the wish of the victim’s parents. He said that he was present at the hospital as she was a resident of his constituency.
“Those who have tortured her and murdered her brutally will be punished after the law is enacted by the state. Unfortunately, none is now talking about the punishment of the criminal. But we will ensure that she gets justice,” Ghosh said after coming out of CGO Complex. He, however, refused to answer any query related to Sandip Ghsoh. “Nirmal Ghosh was there at the hospital and we saw him at the crematorium, too. I had only informed former councillor Somnath de. When we reached the crematorium we found her lying in front of the funeral pyre. She had a VIP treatment that day. The CBI is investigating the case and we have faith in them,” father of the victim said.Meanwhile, parents of the victim on Monday said that they were clueless about the “neighbour uncle” who had pressured the doctors to carry out a post mortem fast. “We are not aware of anyone trying to put pressure on a doctor. We were in a hurry to see our daughter in the morning but there was no hurry after that,” her father said.We also published the following articles recently
