Car hits constable, driver arrested

Kolkata: A Bhowanipore traffic guard constableBiswajit Ghosh, was injured on Thursday when a car speeding down the AJC Bose Road flyover towards the Race Course-PTS crossing hit him.
Without stopping, the driver then jumped a traffic signal and took a wide right turn onto Hospital Road. But the police caught him at Fort William South Gate. The driver has been arrested and the vehicle seized.
According to the police, ever since Maa flyover was opened, vehicles coming from AJC Bose Road flyover tended to break rules to turn right towards Esplanade through Maidan. "We have written to the PWD, asking it to build a ramp from the AJC Bose Road flyover to Hospital Road. Even the traffic kiosk at the spot is not well-constructed, forcing cops to stand in the middle of the road to man traffic," said an officer.
