HOWRAH: Five schoolgirls were injured after they were hit by a battery driven car inside Shibpur Botanical Gardens on Monday. The garden authorities have lodged a complaint against the driver of the car who has fled after the incident.
A group of 54 students of class XI environment science of Ramkrishna Adarsha Balika Vidyalaya, assisted by three teachers of the school had gone to Botanical Gardens to work on as part of their practical classes.

They were working on their project when one of the battery driven cars suddenly hit five of them. The five students Neha Shaw, Sahanara Seikh, Chandrani Das, Swati Karmakar and Sanchari Das were injured and rushed to the nearby South Howrah state general hospital for treatment. The driver of the car fled from the spot after hitting the students.
It was later learned that the driver who was running the battery driven car was not among the drivers hired to run these special cars. The Garden's joint director, Himadri Sekhar Debnath later said that they had lodged a complaint against the accused driver at Shibpur police station. "We have learnt that the driver had put brakes but it did not work. We have called in the company that has manufactured the cars to talk on this matter," he said.
The Garden authorities have introduced three battery driven cars two months back for visitors to roam about. The Garden authorities wants to ensure that such mishaps does not recur.
