KOLKATA: BJP is expected to make a major show of strength on Wednesday - June 12 - as the party workers would be marching to the Kolkata Police headquarters in
Lalbazar
to gherao it in protest against the attacks on them. Kolkata Police will chalk out an effective strategy to thwart the bid, a senior officer said, adding that traffic movement won't be allowed to be hit.
Senior BJP leader Jai Prakash Majumdar said that the law and order failure is a major concern for all in the state and to highlight it the BJP will gherao the Kolkata Police headquarters. "Moreover, the
BJP workers
are being attacked across the state and the police are acting in a biased manner," Majumdar added.
Saptarshi Chowdhury, a BJP leader, said that party workers would be pouring in from different parts to march towards Lalbazar, but major congregations would happen in Howrah and Sealdah. In May 2017, BJP had organised a Lalbazar gherao and some of its leaders had managed to sneak inside the police headquarters at that time.
