Kolkata: The state has decided to set up Biswa Bangla showrooms in all the districts to popularize traditional and heritage products of Bengal.
The Biswa Bangla brand was launched by the government to support handloom weavers, craftsmen and traditional artisans through strategic marketing of their products. So far, the shops were mainly found in Kolkata and airports.
Now, through distributors, the state will open showrooms in districts, selling items, like Sundarbans honey, Darjeeling tea, kasundi, nalen gur, handloom items, Dokra handicraft and Bengal kantha and Baluchari saris, apart from masks and dolls of Bengal and bell metal products. Officials said they ensured the quality of the products were not compromised, of the reasons why the brand was gaining market quickly.
