Bid date for Park Circus-Gariahat flyover extended by two weeks

KOLKATA: The last date for submitting bids for the proposed

flyover

from

Park Circus

to

Gariahat

is likely to be pushed back for the second time as a consulting agency will carry out a traffic survery to see how the new structure would improve traffic, especially on Syed Amir Ali Avenue and at Ballygunge Phanri.

The tender was floated on March 10 for a Gariahat-bound arm of the Maa flyover. The date for submitting the bids was fixed on April 17. But after the state’s infrastructure sub-committee changed plans and decided that an independent flyover from Park Circus to Gariahat would be built, the date for submission was extended to the first week of June so that the prospective builders got enough time to modify their plans.

Officials of KMDA, nodal agency of the project, said the date would be extended as consulting agency RITES was now carrying out a fresh traffic survey for the proposed flyover and to also include the modified flyover alignment in the tender document.

Officials pointed out that the earlier Maa flyover arm was modified so that even vehicles from the AJC Bose Road-end could avail of the corridor to Gariahat in shorter time, avoiding the signals on Syed Amir Ali Avenue and at Ballygunge Phanri. “RITES is preparing a fresh traffic survey, based on the modified plan, and see how vehicles reaching Park Circus from Maa and AJC Bose flyovers can benefit from the new flyover,” said a KMDA official.

Officials said the proposed project would be funded from the state special infrastructure project corpus.
