Bengaluru couple attacked, 1 held

KOLKATA: A young couple from Bengaluru were allegedly attacked by

drunk goons

in Baranagar late on Dashami night. One person has been arrested.

Sources said Sourav Ghosh had protested against some locals when they passed lewd comments at his wife Priti. The two were about to get into a friend’s car when the incident happened around 1.30am on Saturday. They were returning to their Belgharia house after attending a party at their friend’s house in Baranagar’s Mallick Colony. Ghosh, a multi-gym instructor in Bengaluru and a resident of Belgharia Rathtala More, had reached Kolkata with his wife on Panchami. “My friend Arindam Dey offered to drop us at home. His car was parked near off BT Road. As we were about to get into the car, the drunk youths passed lewd comments at my wife. When I protested, they attacked me. When my wife came to my rescue, they pushed her at least thrice,” Ghosh said.

Dey said the youths threw a brick at his car. “We suspect there was dispute over car-parking,” said Ananda Roy, DCP, Barrackpore.
