Kolkata: A day after crashing to a big defeat against Mumbai, Bengal made some amends in their second Vijay Hazare Trophy Group E match in Ranchi on Sunday, hammering
Mizoram by nine wickets.
Chasing only 58, Bengal achieved the target in just 6.2 overs, losing opener Sudip Gharami’s wicket in the process. It was a huge mismatch with Mizoram never really in the game.
Chosing to bat first, the Northeastern team managed only 57 in 21.2 overs.
The batters were completely at sea while facing Bengal’s left-arm orthodox bowler Pradipta Pramanik, who finished with astounding figures for four wickets for two runs in his 2.2 overs. Pacers Geet Puri and Mukesh Kumar grabbed three and two wickets respectively.
For Mizoram, Joseph Lalthankhuma was the highest scorer with 21. Former Bengal wicketkeeper Shreevats Goswami, who is playing as a professional for Mizoram, could score only four.
Mizoram’s total was never going challenge Bengal, who galloped to their target in just 38 balls.
In another Group E matches, Shubam Rohilla and Ravi Chauhan struck centuries as Services beat Mumbai by eight wickets.
Yashasvi Jaiswal also scored a century in Mumbai’s losing cause.
